Drums and other instruments

It is probably impossible to separate drums from magick. Drums express the human heart beat; they are used for a wide variety of magickal purposes, including healing, banishing, protective rites and spirit summoning. One type of drum or another is enjoyed by virtually every culture on Earth. The earliest visual depictions of spiritual rituals include drums. The Egyptian protective spirit Bes is almost never seen without his frame drum. Similarly Kybele, perhaps the most ancient deity still familiar with us today, carries a frame drum. The use of percussion instruments are central to both Bel and Kybele's mythology. Interestingly as opposed to the modern perception of percussion as masculine drums, particularly the frame drums and tambourines were once identified strongly as womans instruments and were a sacred tool in many women's spiritual traditions. drumming remains central to African-derived rituals, as each Orisha and Iwa possesses their own rhythm and songs, which are used to summon and communicate with the spirits.. Drums are also traditional shamanic tools, and tools of divination. Percussion is incorporated into ritual. There are many inexpensive instruments available and many are also easily handcrafted.
