On this date in ancient Athens, an annual Grape Vine Festival was held in honour of the Greek deities Ariadne and Dionysus. In Crete, Ariadne was worshipped as a goddess of the Moon, and Dionysus as the son of Semele (who was also a goddess of the Moon). * Celtic tree month of Vine begins. (N.H)
